+10:54:54 From John Rudy to Everyone:

For ongoing or new conversations, Perplexity offers a ”memory” feature that allows it to remember preferences, interests, and specific information between sessions, making future answers more personalized and relevant.”

+10:39:44 From David Duff to Everyone:

+10:59:55 From Harry Forsdick to Everyone:
+ On the question about apple iPods as hearing aids. My experience: It’s a cool idea, but I found it very difficult to get the iPods to fit into my ear so that they sealed the ear canal sufficiently enough to run their hearing test.  So, I returned the iPods and gave up.  It was one of those things that you have to try it yourself to see if you can get it work.
+ I was not impressed with how difficult it was to even get started evaluating them.
 + Your milage may vary…
+11:02:38 From David Duff to Everyone:
+ @Harry Forsdick, yes i have that same problem - the silicone earpieces that come standard on airpods fall out of my ears for some reason.  i did have some luck with 3rd party alternative earpieces (including ones that were foam instead of silicone) that improved things for me.  they were not too expensive (<$20).

+ this not based on firsthand comparison, but i tend to agree with that.  sub-$200.   there's an apple store at the mall for rare in-person support requirements.  they use (mostly) standard bluetooth and work with phone/computer in a standard way (apple or other).   they pair cleanly.   you can put their products under applecare (extended warranty).  easy to buy.  easy to replace.   accessory support from third parties (e.g. earpieces, etc.).

 +<WRAP prewrap>
 +<code>
+10:53:12 From Bob Primak to Everyone:
+ The mortgage crisis of 2008 was also not a hack. It was not merely a case of “too big to fail”. The failure was one of regulatory oversight, allowing companies to lend to people who had no chance of repaying.
 +10:55:01 From Seth to Everyone:
+ His point is that the banks purposely created a scenario “too big to fail” which enabled them to profit from irresponsible risk because they did not have consequences associated with the risk going bad.  Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac and its associated investors used this same strategy.
+10:55:15 From Bob Primak to Everyone:
+ (Of course, there's still the question as to whether the regulatory process itself may have been hacked.)
 +10:55:16 From Seth to Everyone:
+ and that could qualify as “hacking the system”
+10:55:37 From Bob Primak to Everyone:
+ Seth, you are probably correct in this sense.
+10:55:48 From Carl Lazarus to Everyone:
+ It was a failure of regulatory oversight, but the banks and finance companies that loaned money that had a poor prospect of repayment, and then sold those loans to unsuspecting buyers, were hackers.
+10:56:21 From Bob Primak to Everyone:
+ Yes, Carl, that was hacking the consumers' desire to own a home.
 +10:56:57 From Seth to Everyone:
+ The scenario was much more complicated than this.  These banks eventually figured out ways to securitize loans without needing the loans.  Pure gambling.
 +10:57:43 From Seth to Everyone:
+ This is the world of derivatives
+10:58:42 From Bob Primak to Everyone:
+ That reminds me of both crypto markets and what used to happen in high-velocity trading, relying on hacks of the arbitrage system and timing delays within computer networks. I delivered a talk to our Group on The Flash Boys of Wall Street a couple of years ago.
+10:59:49 From Bob Primak to Everyone:
+ I didn't do the same type of analysis of crypto trading, but I gave a presentation to our group a little while ago on the Crypto Culture.
 +11:01:15 From Seth to Everyone:
+ Yeah, high-frequency trading is really interesting.  Adding a middle man that extracts profit without adding any value.  Kind of like most forms of ticket scalping.
 +11:04:30 From Seth to Everyone:
+ The Peter Thiel Roth IRA tax loophole is amazing.  I believe he put Palantir stock into his Roth at the beginning and it has grown to something like $8B in value.
+11:11:58 From Bob Primak to Everyone:
+ Law and medicine are very different fields. In medicine, expert systems (a form of AI) can vastly improve the accuracy and efficiency of certain tests or scans. But in law, there are no objective standards. Everything depends on precedent and interpretive reasoning. So in law you can't improve outcomes by applying pattern recognition algorithms. AI (as it currently exists) thus is useless in the field of law.
 +11:18:43 From Seth to Everyone:
+ I’m pretty sure AI is already being used heavily in law.  Isn’t there a lot of cookie cutter stuff that people currently hire attorneys for that could be replaced.

+00:56:02 Bob P.: While tricopters (3 rotors) and other odd-numbered configurations exist, they often require more complex control systems to counteract the inherent torque imbalance. Even-numbered configurations, like quadcopters (4 rotors), hexacopters (6 rotors), and octocopters (8 rotors), allow for easier balancing of rotational forces and more straightforward control algorithms.

+01:04:06 John Rudy: military drones can not be limited by line of sight
+01:04:42 Bob P.: Military drones can use satellites. Starlink was used in Ukraine before Trump got elected.
+01:05:42 Jerome Slate: Wrong, John.  The line-of-sight is to the GPS. The onboard computer contains the destination and target coordinates.
+01:06:47 Steve: There are many communications involved. Control: line of sight. GPS and satellite: vision to sky.
+01:07:29 John Rudy: for those wanting more info on LiDAR we had a talk maybe 6 months ago
+01:19:52 Adam Broun: If your phone can get GPS on the ground so can the drone
+01:26:32 Steve: How does the drone determine its altitude?  Does it use GPS (likely) or barometric pressure or something else?
+01:27:53 tedpk: Meet Skydweller: A solar-powered drone that can fly for 90 days straight — it's wider and 160 times lighter than a Boeing 747
+News, By Peter Ray Allison published 3 hours ago.  Skydweller is a solar-powered drone that can fly for up to three months without landing, with researchers hoping to one day achieve much longer flight times.
+01:31:20 Don Cooke: For return-to launch site, the drone does the precise landing by matching to a photo the drone takes as it collects the landing gps site
+01:38:24 John Rudy: are there legal limitations on how low you can fly to the ground, affecting neighbors?
+01:38:41 Barbara Wan: A most interesting talk! My MIT-trained husband was having a ball.  Sadly though we have to leave early.  We will watch the video afterwards to check out those amazing pictures.
+01:40:16 Bob P.: Legal limitations: Short answer -- yes, there are FAA regulations and privacy laws. But no, as yet you can't prevent someone from pointing a drone camera into your property.
+01:41:26 John Rudy: there are stories of folks shooting down drones with a shotgun, but no info of where the pellets and drone pieces landed
+01:42:08 Bob P.: Issues have arisen when HOAs and Assessors, among others, have pointed drome cameras into private property and found violations.
+01:43:04 Jerome Slate: Do property owners hold air rights up to some altitude over their property?
+01:44:18 Bob P.: No. Not with regard to drones. And the drone can look into a property without overflying the airspace above that property.
+01:46:18 Jerome Slate: So can a drone sidle up to your bedroom window? (I shudder to imagine what it will see.)
+01:49:17 Bob P.: No, that would result in a police call. But again, if you are at bedroom level and not overflying their property, this is the same as a ground-based cam attached to your house. You are allowed to point it at your neighbor's house, at whatever level the cam is aimed. There have been disputes about this, resulting in dueling cameras across fence lines. Hilarious, unless it's your bedroom window.
+01:49:17 Don Cooke: Batteries: My DJI controller has a robust battery and it will charge my phone during flight if necessary.
+01:51:01 Tim O'Neal: Can the drone do some limited aerobatics?  Fly upside-down???
+01:53:14 John Rudy: about a year ago an Asian woman asked AI to enhance her photo and it removed some of the Asian features.  It got a lot of press about biases

+ I bought an inexpensive HDMI hub that allows connecting up to four displays to one computer HDMI port. The limitation is that all of the

+ Thanks.  @Steve Isenberg was mentioning other solutions as well.  Not sure the state of the MacOS helper as it’s last update was in 2023.

+ There are portable apps available for MacOS from a variety of sources. I'm not sure this particular site or app ecosystem is still being developed for Mac.
+10:46:20 From Bob Primak to Everyone:
+ Be CAREFUL when buying large-capacity flash drives or cheap SSDs on Amazon and other sites! They often are rigged and do not have their stated internal components -- the capacity is reported incorrectly through the device firmware.
