LCTG Renaming

Larry Wittig 9/12/2023

For the 20 Sept. meeting, maybe we should give some thought ahead of time to a new group name. Some possibilities:

LSTG – Lex. Science & Technology Group
LCSTG – Lex. Computer Science & Technology Group or LSCTG to avoid “computer science”.
LexSTEM before Lexington KY grabs it.

We are called a “Group” because we started as a Yahoo Group. When YGs disappeared Steve graciously absorbed us on his Wiki. Do we want to keep the Group designation?

John Rudy 9/12/2023

Lexington Technology Group?

Olga Guttag 9/12/2023

Though I generally don’t like rebranding of products or institutions, if you really want to change the group name (I would not) I’ll support whatever decision you make.

I think the “LSTG – Lex. Science & Technology Group” is more accurate. Since we often also talk about computing, we should add it to the new name “LSCTG – Lex. Science, Computing & Technology Group”

I am not sure but I think that some group/program within LPS is already called LexSTEM. I have most often encounter the “<place>STEM” name in reference to school/university programs. I recommend that we do not use STEM in our new name.

Steve Isenberg and ChatGPT 9/12/2023

I agree with Olga's don't-rename thoughts. Maybe we could change our byline to include other topics we cover (like “LCTG, a group of interested and interesting professionals discussing various current topics of Science, Technology, Computer, Engineering, Medicine, Mathematics, and their historical development”)

But if we want to consider a new name, maybe there's a resource we could use to help.

With the help of ChatGPT, here are some possibilities it suggested and/or inspired. I'm not personally “in love” with many of them but maybe they'll prompt other ideas:

LexQuest, or LexQUEST, short for Lexington Quantum, Engineering, Science, Technology. This my shortened version from ChatGPT's suggestion of LexQUESTAM, Lexington Quantum, Engineering, Science, Technology Astronomy, and Medicine.

Or this: LexSTEMX, short for Lexington Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics/Medicine, Explorers.
Or NESTEMX, same but New England based if we don't want to include “Lexington” in the name.

STEAMdunk – corny, like slam-dunk, but like getting the ball (topic) in the basket for science, technology, engineering, astronomy, math and medicine?

LexSTEAM, short for Lexington Science Team and/or Lexington Science, Technology, Engineering, Astronomy, and Mathematics/Medicine. Doesn't include 'computers' though, maybe that's under Technology.
Lex Steamers

Other ideas include:
TechFusion, suggesting the merging of various technical and scientific fields for dynamic discussions
LexiVersity, combining Lexington and University, implying a place of versatile learning.

Related but I (steve) don't like these…
WisdomMasters – highlighting the wealth of knowledge and experience of our professionals
EduSages – combining education and sages to signify the wisdom and teaching role of our members. Maybe sounds too much like sausages…
WiseMindInstitute – suggesting a place/group providing wisdom and intellectual growth through education

LexQuest has my vote
Our talks morphed from computers to science, technology and more. Thus I like LexQuest since to me it says “Lexington questing for knowledge” . thus it would include any topic we agree to want to hear about.

Just my 2 cents

I like the sound of LexQuest.

LexTechs

Carl Lazarus 9/12/2023

I agree with Olga and Steve that there is not a need to rename. If we do, “LSCTG” is my preference.

Bill Quinn 9/12/2023

I'm thinking of Lexington Science Engineering and Technology Group (LexSET) or Lexington Science and Technology Group. (LexSaT).
I feel that computers and software fall under the broader technology name so we can remove that from our name. After all, DEC, Wang, Lotus, Data General, etc. were all grouped under the high-tech name.

Dick Wagner 9/12/2023

I'm in favor of adding an “S” to the group logo. There are a number of non-computer related topics that have been and are being presented routinely which the group members appear to enjoy. I also favor keeping the “L” for its origin and group location significance, and the “C” for historical as well as the often-presented topics devoted to computer applications. I'm not wedded to the “T”; I don't think it adds any information not already present without its occurrence, but am not strongly opposed to keeping it. Finally, I am in favor of keeping the “G” for historical reasons as well as the 'bonding' it evokes among the group members.😉 Proposal: LSCG!

LexQuest Foundation (LQF) is a non-partisan, non-profit community development organization established in 2014 in New Delhi. And has a webpage.
